About Vom Herbst Rottweilers

This all changed with our next dog. We went to the pound to get a dog and my husband picked out a

Rottweiler/Shar Pei mix, Walrus. The pound found him as a stray, so we had no history of his life. Whoever had owned him had taken great care of him. Walrus was friendly, socialized, and well-trained both on and off-leash. Walrus was an excellent family dog, loved children, and was naturally protective of the kids and our home. Everything I loved about him were Rottweiler traits, I decided they were the breed for me.

Our next Rottweiler was an unregistered $100 Craigslist pup from an oops litter. Arlo is a great dog, smart, and he loves to train. He happily lives with our oldest daughter, her husband, and Huckleberry the German Shorthair Pointer.

The next Rottweiler was Kevin, a female. Again, not bought from a good breeder but a great dog. Kevin had a few problems. She had an underbite, needed TPLO surgery on both knees, was a singleton puppy, and started suffering from arthritis at the age of four. Kevin died from bloat complications in 2023. She is dearly missed.

We were then given the sweetest 6-month-old Rottweiler girl, Poppy. Poppy's owners were divorcing, and

Poppy was catching the brunt of some bad situations. Despite her rough start, Poppy was a ray of sunshine.

At the age of 18 months, she needed surgery on both of her knees and elbows. This was the result of poor breeding, poor nutrition as a young dog, her early spay, and the abuse she endured. We felt that was too many surgeries for one dog to endure, she was humanely euthanized at home.

A few months before Poppy died, I got my first Rottweiler, Leeta, from Sarah of Vom Lauffeuer Rottweilers. Poppy was absolutely delighted that we had gotten her a puppy. It was wonderful that little Leeta was such a source of happiness at the end of Poppy's life. Sarah is a wonderful, responsible breeder who cares about the health and well-being of the dogs she produces. She does all the health testing you could want, uses puppy culture to raise her pups, and is a wonderful source of support. Leeta was so wonderful I needed another Rottweiler. So I bought Zenobia from Sarah and we got her just before Christmas in 2021.

I am Autumn Goforth, Vom Herbst means Of Autumn.

My foundation females, Leeta and Zenobia, are from Vom Lauffeuer Rottweilers.

I wanted to start breeding for a few reasons. I'm a pet dog trainer. These pets are always well-loved but aren't always as mentally or physically sound as you would want your beloved pet to be. This can lead to limitations and potential heartbreak for their owners. By breeding healthy dogs, raising and training them, I can make a difference in people's and their dog's lives for the better.

I had never met a rottweiler or liked them as a breed until 2005.

I didn't know why anyone would want one of those mean dogs that are always attacking or scaring people in movies and on TV. Except for the one causing chaos on National Lampoons Christmas, he was pretty funny.
